Dare to be different 

– be what you are!
A life of holiness

Forword:

‘It is this holiness — the doctrines, the experience, the action — that we Salvationists must maintain, else we shall betray our trust; we shall lose our birthright; we shall cease to be a spiritual power in the earth; we shall have a name to live and yet be dead; our glory will depart; and we, like Samson shorn of his locks, shall become as other men.’(1)

This material has been prepared for seminars on holiness and is meant as an introduction to the vast subject of holiness. When writing, I have had people with an active involvement in The Salvation Army in mind. However, as long as the readers are aware of this, I believe that the material will be interesting for all people longing for holiness.

As well as quoting great heroes of the faith, I have tried to share from my own journey with the Spirit – it is all about Him!

As with everything else in the Spiritual world – what is written will only be ‘letters’ if the Spirit does not bring them to life (1). It is my prayer that this will happen. Without the Spirit we are just like other men. With the Spirit, we are different. We should dare to be what we are in Christ.

Missiologi

Overskriften er den korte versjonen av dette undervisningsopplegget - den lange er slik:

Frelsesarmeen i Japan i lys av bevegelsens missiologiske fokus og Gunpei Yamamuros bidrag

Undervisningen hører til et av kursene som Det teologiske menighetsfakultetet har godkjent som en del av en bachelorgrad tilrettelagt for FA. Kurset gir totalt 10 studiepoeng.

Fra innledningen:

Jeg har et sterkt og personlig engasjement i relasjon til missiologi. I 1995 skrev jeg "Gjør noe!" en hovedfagsoppgave i kristendom som er en analyse av FAs teologi og struktur holdt opp mot de forutsetninger som ligger i det vi kjenner som ”Kirkevekstprinsipper”. Kirkevekstteorien utgjør i dag en del av det teologiske fagfeltet som betegnes som missiologi.

Jeg har fått i oppdrag å presentere tankene som formidles av fire bidragsytere til kursets pensum:

• Lester T. Ferguson: “Holistic Mission and Ministry” part I
• Lucien Lamartinière: “Holistic Mission and Ministry” part II
• Young Sung Kim: “In search of Emerging Theological Issues Pertinent to the Mission of the Salvation Army in a New Age of Religious Pluralism”
• R. David Rightmire: “Salvationist Samurai”

Min relasjon til bidragsyterne er at jeg faktisk har møtt alle fire. De tre første presenterte sine dokumenter som innlegg på ”The International Theology and Ethics Symposium” i Johannesburg i 2006 hvor jeg også var delegat. Jeg var derfor kjent med innholdet i disse dokumentene før jeg fikk oppdraget i forbindelse med dette kurset. David R. Rightmire har jeg møtt ved besøk til Asbury College i USA hvor han er professor. Jeg visste om, men hadde ikke lest den boka som er pensum.
Jeg kunne ha valgt å presentere bidragene fortløpende, men har valgt den form som jeg mener er mest nyttig i forhold til å belyse kursets tematikk.
